“Offering time?” and the reply rings through the auditorium, “Blessing time!” With this kind of rehearsed protocol, the tithes and offerings are often received at the end of the church service. The importance of it is missed by many in church and is often reduced to a duty they must perform or, at best, some kind of game of gambling which they hope will suddenly turn them into millionaires some day. However, God takes these (tithes and offerings) seriously! I began to think about certain scriptures that show rather clearly that this is not just one of the normal activities of a church service, nor even just a necessary act to ensure that the church bills are paid, nor a get-rich-quick scheme. The offerings (including tithe) are meant to be part of our worship, as much a part as our singing fast or slow songs. Tithing and giving offerings are important acts of worship (Proverbs 3:9). |
